Massage Therapy Institute is dedicated to teaching the technical and inter-personal skills that will enable you and your clients to live healthier and happier lives. Our classes will help you to respond intuitively to the needs of your client from an informed and educated perspective. Offering over forty years of combined experience, our fully trained and licensed faculty has education and experience in everything from Prenatal and infant Massage to Trigger Points and Myotherapy.

Massage Therapy Institute has a long running heritage of instructing and educating, extending to even before the formation of the Alabama Board of Massage Therapy. Learn from the knowledge and experience of our multiple capable and professional instructors.

Massage Therapy Institute was founded in 1994.
As licensing and regulations began in 1997, the Alabama Board of Massage Therapy (ABMT) was formed, Massage Therapy Institute became a state licensed school, ABMT #S-107.
Our staff is dedicated to excellence in academics, professional training and practical application.
It is our goal to create an optimum learning experience for every one of our students.
Our earnest hope is that the technical and inter-personal skills you acquire will bring much pleasure and improved health to clients as well as career satisfaction and rewards to you.

Certifications include; Freeing the Breath-way, Myofascial Release, Medical Massage for the Back, HEMME APPROACH to Neck and Shoulder Pain, Onsite Massage and Equine Massage/Muscle Therapy Techniques.
Instructor License # I-014 Instructor; Theory and Practice of Therapeutic Massage, Business Practices, Professional Ethics and Specialized Massage; Athletic Massage, Chair Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, and Myotherapy.

Class times are available from 9am-1pm or 6pm-10pm.
Internship hours are performed outside of classroom hours and may be completed within the year.
Internship hours are performed outside of your regular scheduled class days and available every day except Sunday.
Clinical hours: Monday thru Friday and non-class Saturdays (Second Semester) Dates will be assigned after beginning program.

A light oil or lotion may be used to permit your muscles to be worked without causing excessive friction to the skin.
The lubricants used should hydrate the skin and be readily absorbed.
In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes, which will help to calm your nervous system and relax muscle tension.
As your body becomes relaxed, pressure may be gradually increased to relax and relieve specific areas of tension.
You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken.
