Enter Fascial Stretch Therapy (or FST), a type of stretching that targets not only the muscles, but the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, and joints. FST also targets the entire joint and joint capsule, using traction to remove restrictions from movement and to stimulate lubrication. A therapist will gently pull and move the arms, legs, spine, and neck in a smooth motion through varying planes of movement.

There is no pain, not even discomfort. Instead, the gentle movement is stimulating and relaxing at the same time. Passive therapy or treatments have poor outcomes without re-educating the brain and the rest of the nervous system. FST is one of the most active therapies and training systems performed on a therapy or training table. Then it is continued off the table in functional positions and movements.

The result is immediate nervous system re-education and integration to eliminate poor movement patterns and help maintain the gains made in that session. Clinical evidence of pain elimination and reduction, improved muscle function and other objective signs provide support for our general premise that FST rapidly improves function of the nervous system.

These inspirations stuck with me as I studied Sports Medicine and worked as a therapy aide in residential and outpatient he improvements I saw our patients achieving through massage and exercise, inspired me to formally study therapeutic massage.
In 1994 I graduated from Irene's Myomassology Institute.
Our studies were beyond just therapeutic massage.
Also included, were herbology, nutrition and aromatherapy, all of which are an integral part of my practice and my life.
I love to learn and update my training through continuing education courses regularly.
Swedish massage uses five styles of strokes.
The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber or with the fibers) and vibration/shaking.
Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks.
The development of Swedish massage is often inaccurately credited to Per Henrik Ling, though the Dutch practitioner Johann Georg Mezger applied the French terms to name the basic strokes.
Just one street down from our previous location at Peak Physical Therapy, we now can offer a more quiet comfortable experience.
Fascial stretch therapy improves the mobility of your nerves & the flexibility of your muscles and fascia by focusing on the fascial lines that connect through and wrap around muscle, nerves, organs, and just about everything else in your body.
In an effort to eat healthier and more ethically, I tend to gravitate towards foods that are organic, non-GMO, and locally grown.
